Quarter Horse Training

Horse training can be difficult and intimidating. Horses are are very strong and powerful animals and, if poorly trained, may become problematic.
  1. No Force

    • Using force when training can be a fatal flaw. Horses that bite and buck are often the same horses that have been abused.

    Pack Animals

    • Horses are pack animals like dogs, and can be loyal. Like most animals that are naturally grouped, they can respect a leader and do not have to be fought with.

    Early Training

    • Training your horse should begin at as young an age as possible. A horse may not be able to hold much weight yet, but the sooner the horse is used to a saddle and to taking commands, the better.

    No Stress

    • Horses need to be relaxed during training. A horse that is agitated often learns slowly and is difficult to train.

    Tone of Voice

    • Horses are very sensitive to the tone of a voice. A trainer should speak softly to horses during training. If a horse is spoken to soothingly throughout training, it often helps the horse to stay relaxed.
