Instructions for Herm Sprenger Bits

A Herm Sprenger bit is a piece of revolutionary tack that can change the way your horse accepts the bridle and moves forward into your hand. The unique alloy Aurigan is a specific metal designed especially for use in bitting horses, containing a smell and taste that horses love. Aurigan also warms up in the horse's mouth rapidly, encouraging the horse to feel comfortable wearing the bit. Caring for your Herm Sprenger bit will allow you to use it for many years.

Instructions

Look at the Herm Sprenger bit to identify how the bit should be attached to the bridle. For newer Herm Sprenger bits, check the cheekpiece of the bit for an arrow. The arrow should point forward, or toward the nose of the horse. An older Herm Sprenger bit may not have the arrow, so to make sure it's facing the proper direction, make sure the bit is in the shape of a curve, with the apex of the curve closest to the horse's nose.

Attach the Herm Sprenger bit to the bridle. Attach the reins to the bit.

Fit the bit to your horse by putting the bridle on and looking at the wrinkles in the corner of your horse's mouth. Ideally the horse should have two wrinkles in the corner of its mouth. If there is less, tighten the bridle. If there is more, loosen the bridle.
