How long do seahorses take to hatch?
The gestation period for seahorses is species-dependent and can vary from as short as 10 days to as long as 45 days. In general, the larger the seahorse species, the longer the gestation period. During the gestation period, the male seahorse will carry the developing embryos in a specialized brood pouch located on his abdomen. The embryos will receive nourishment from the yolk sac until they are fully developed and ready to hatch. Once they hatch, the baby seahorses will be free-swimming and independent.
