Troubleshooting a BioCube

BioCube aquariums provide marine habitats with enhanced filtration systems, LED lighting and curved glass views. Like any high-end product, there may be some problems that arise from daily use. Some of the more common issues in BioCubes are with pumps, filters and hoses. Many of these are easy fixes, as they can be attributed to user error or standard maintenance upkeep. Doing a quick audit of these areas can often get everything up and running again.

Place the aquarium on a level surface. Failing to do so can cause the filter pump chamber to run dry and shoot air into the tank. If this occurs, use a pitcher or a hose to add water to the aquarium, so that the filter system fills back up and the pump chamber is full again.

Check the filter cartridge to see if it's clogged. A clogged cartridge can also cause the pump chamber to run dry and blow bubbles into the tank. To unclog it, remove the cartridge and rinse it thoroughly under running water. Then place it back inside the filter system.

Check to see if the wastewater and product water hoses are hooked up in the correct positions of the PureFlow II water purification system. These hoses attach to the membrane housing of the system and are demarcated by the colors orange (waste line) and yellow or blue (product line). Connecting them incorrectly could cause excessive good product water to get into the tank. Confirm they are in the correct ports and fasten them tightly. Another cause of over-excessive good product water could be the membrane of the purification system not being properly secured. To solve this problem, open the membrane housing cap and press down hard on the membrane until it will not move any further. Then replace the cap.

Check to see if any LED lights are flickering. The LED lights in BioCube aquariums are interconnected to each other, so if one of them is having an issue, all the lights will be affected. Unplug the unit and check each LED lamp separately to find which one is not fully connected. If the LEDs are all secure on the harness connector, then it may be a problem with the transformer. Check to see if the harness connector is properly connected to the transformer. If the issue persists, you may need to call the manufacturer's technical support line, as there is nothing more you can do on your own to solve this problem.
