How to Hide the Filter Tube & Heater in an Aquarium

Creating serene ambiance for your home, aquariums showcase beautiful fish and plant life. Whether you prominently display your tank in your living room or tuck it in the corner of your kitchen, this underwater scene can reflect your personality, complement your décor or tell a story. A beautiful scene can become diminished, however, if the filter tube, heater and electrical cords show. By minimizing the appearance of these unattractive yet necessary accessories, your aquarium can look and feel more natural and beautiful.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and height of your aquarium, to determine the size of background paper needed to cover the entire back of the tank.

    • 2

Clean the outer back glass of your aquarium with a damp cloth, to remove any water spots or smudges before applying the background paper. Allow the glass to dry completely.

    • 3

Insert the aquarium background paper underneath the lip on the top of your tank. Trim any paper that extends beyond the edges, and secure it by taping to the glass. Apply the tape neatly, to minimize its appearance on your tank.

    • 4

Arrange plastic or natural plants, rocks and other decorations near -- but not touching -- the filter and heater. Keep these accessories far enough away from the filter so that it does not become clogged or unable to function. Maintain a safe distance from the heater, so that it can warm the water in the entire tank and the accessories do not become damaged.
