Things You'll Need
- Fresh water or marine aquarium
- Activated carbon (optional)
- Filter floss (optional)
Instructions
Remove the cartridge housing, which is mounted vertically below the Atman power liquid filter.
Open the impeller housing at the bottom of the motor and remove the impeller. Check that there are gaskets at both the top and bottom of the impeller spindle. Replace the impeller and return the ̶0;impeller well̶1; cover.
Ensure that the filter sponge is in place. Alternatively, remove the filter sponge and replace it on a temporary or permanent basis with other filter material, such as activated carbon and filter floss. The activated carbon will remove dissolved impurities and the filter floss will physically trap particles of organic waste.
Remove and rinse the filter sponge on a regular basis once the Atman filter is in operation. This sponge should be rinsed once weekly if the aquarium is heavily stocked and overfed. The Atman filter sponge traps particular waste and concentrates it in one place for easy removal. If the sponge is not removed and rinsed, the waste breaks down and toxic products will build up in the aquarium.
Use the adhesive suction cups to secure the Atman filter on the inside panel, on one side of the aquarium. Position the Atman filter in a vertical position. Positioning the filter on a side pane allows the clean water that flows from the unit to travel across the length of the aquarium.
Position the Atman filter so that the square outflow nozzle is at the water surface. In this way, the filtered water will continually break the surface of the water and prevent the build up of an oily film, with typically accumulates on the surface of most tanks. Life giving oxygen enters the aquarium through the water surface and carbon dioxide (which must not be allowed to build up in aquariums) leaves the water through the surface. Neither of these functions can happen correctly if there is a film across the water surface.
Plug the Atman filter into a wall power source and turn it on.
