Things You'll Need
- Fish tank
- Gravel substrate
- Water conditioner
- Java moss
- Heavy-duty nylon thread
- Small- to medium-sized rocks
- Filter system
- Powerhead
- Plant fertilizer
- Goldfish
Instructions
Rinse your gravel. Add it to your tank to create a substrate layer 2 to 3 inches thick. Add water and use the water conditioner as directed.
Take a small handful of moss and secure it to a rock using the thread. Use your finger to poke a shallow hole in the tank̵7;s substrate. Place the rock in the substrate and lightly cover it. Repeat this process two or three times in different areas around the tank.
Install a filter and powerhead to the tank to create a strong flow of water around the moss.
Allow the moss to take root in the gravel. Use the plant fertilizer as directed for the first two or three weeks to encourage growth. Add goldfish or other small fish to provide natural nutrients.
Trim the moss as it grows to create a ̶0;carpet̶1; look in your tank.
