How to Read Stick-on Fish Thermometers

A stick-on thermometer is often a popular choice to use as an aquarium thermometer because of its ease to install and cheap cost. However, stick-on thermometers vary from normal thermometers by recording several temperature ranges, requiring aquarium owners to know how to use these mixed temperatures to find their aquarium's interior temperature.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach your stick-on fish thermometer by either clamping it or sticking it onto the side of your tank. If you have a clamp-on fish thermometer, ensure that the thermometer is at least half submerged under water.

    • 2

Identify the three readings on your stick-on thermometer. Stick-on thermometers are incredibly sensitive to changes in temperature. As a result, they take three readings to eliminate any inconsistencies.

    • 3

Add the three readings together and divide the number by three. Use this average reading as the general temperature for your tank, give or take two degrees.
