Instructions
Release the locking clips on top of the canister and separate the motor unit from the filter.
Remove the filter baskets from the canister.
Place floss pad and activated carbon bag in the lower filter basket. Place floss pad and the coarse sponge in the upper basket.
Place the round media basket seal ring over the tube in the upper basket and the media basket cover on top of the basket.
Install the motor unit on top of the canister. Make sure the small hole on the bottom of the motor unit aligns with the tube in the upper basket.
Attach the valve with the blue ring to the valve port marked "In." Attach the valve with the black ring to the valve port market "Out."
Place the canister in a location next to the aquarium where it is accessible for routine maintenance.
Attach one hose to the intake tube. Attach an intake tube strainer to the intake tube. Secure the intake hose to the exterior of the aquarium with suction cups.
Attach the other hose to the exhaust tube. Assemble the four lengths of the spray bar and attach the spray bar to the exhaust tube. Secure the exhaust hose to the exterior of the aquarium with suction cups.
Trim the length of the intake and exhaust hoses to minimize bends and prevent kinking.
Attach the intake hose to the valve on top of the canister with the blue ring. Attach the exhaust hose to the valve on top of the canister with the black ring. Turn both flow control knobs at the valves to the open position.
Depress the priming pump on top of the canister repeatedly until water begins flowing into the canister. Wait one minute for the filter to fill, then plug in the power cord to start the pump motor.
Installation Instructions for a Penn-Plax Canister Filter
The Penn-Plax Cascade 700 is a canister filter for fresh and saltwater aquariums. The Cascade provides 185 gallons per hour of flow and is suitable for aquariums with up to 65-gallon capacity. The unit consists of an external combination motor/filter canister unit, an intake hose that clips to the inside wall of the aquarium and an exhaust hose that distributes filtered water across the length of the aquarium through a spray bar. The Cascade 700 is supplied with activated carbon filter media, but its filter baskets accommodate a range of media, including bio-floss, sponge filters and others.
