How to Make an Apple Snail Grow Big

Apple snails are freshwater mollusks that are effective in cleaning out your tanks and also make a good pet for an aquarium. Although apple snails are considered an invasive species when in the wild, they are low-maintenance additions to any home aquarium and are able to coexist with a wide range of aquatic life. In order to make apple snails grow big, you need to make sure you feed them enough food and keep their tank clean, among other things.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep apple snails in water with temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Water that is too cold may inhibit their growth and even cause them to die.

    • 2

Add many different types of live plants in the tank for the apple snails to feed on. They enjoy plants and will grow big if they are given plenty to eat often throughout the day. They eat anything in sight that they deem as edible. They will eat floating fish food, as well as vegetables such as spinach, peas and broccoli.

    • 3

Change the water at least once a month. Because apple snails are such big eaters, they create a lot of waste. Keep at a 20 to 50 percent water change to keep the tank clean.

    • 4

Keep the aquarium in a 12-hour light schedule to allow algae to grow for the snails to eat. While apple snails are more active at night and keep to the dark sections of the tank during the day, their growth is decreased when there isn't enough access to a light source for a significant amount of time.
