Things You'll Need
- Colored gravel
- Ceramic ornaments
- Aquarium plants
- Fish
Instructions
Use colored gravel such as pink, turquoise or purple. Colors are available to complement any decor or preference. Fill the tank with the selected substrate to a depth of about 2 inches.
Select ceramic aquarium ornaments for your fish such as a castle, unicorn or palm trees. Many fish tank decorations are made to accommodate special interests. If you have a special hobby or interest, you should be able to find a corresponding aquarium decoration. Not only are these decorations visually pleasing, but they also provide shelter and security for less social fish. Jewel toned glass stones can also add a special touch when placed strategically throughout the tank.
Choose colored plastic plants that accent your selected color scheme or flowing natural plants to provide a whimsical component. While plastic plants may provide a color-coordinated accessory, live plants add to the quality of the water by increasing filtration and aeration in your tank and producing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide. This provides a more hospitable environment for your fish.
Purchase fish with flowing fins and bright colors that complement your newly decorated tank. Some colorful fish that would make a lovely addition to a girly tank would include neon tetras, angelfish, a male betta, dyed glass fish and guppies. Always research compatibility when selecting fish for your tank.
