How Do I Stick the Background to My Fish Tank?

Fish tanks can add a decorative touch to a home or office. However, if the tank just contains gravel, water and fish it may look plain in appearance. To improve the appearance of your fish tank, you can add decorative features, such as a background. A background is very easy to add, but the impact on the tank will be huge.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the outside of the fish tank, where you will be applying the background, using a glass cleaner. This will remove any debris that may make it difficult for the background to stick.

    • 2

Measure the side of the fish tank where the background will be placed and measure the background to make sure it's the appropriate size. If it is not, use scissors to cut it to fit.

    • 3

Pour a capful of baby oil onto a sponge and apply it to the fish tank's glass. Add more baby oil, if one capful is not enough.

    • 4

Place the top edge of the background onto the fish tank, over the baby oil.

    • 5

Push the rest of the background onto the glass and rub your hand down the background, to attach the background to the tank.

    • 6

Hold the top edge of the background against the tank and place a squeegee just under your fingers.

    • 7

Squeegee any air bubbles out using a downward motion. Make sure you press lightly to avoid inadvertently damaging the background.
