How to Hook Up a Magnum 350 Filter

The Magnum 350 is an aquarium filter manufactured by a company called Marineland. The Magnum 350 is self-starting, so all you have to do is plug it in and forget about it. Aquarium water is pumped into the Magnum's canister, where it is filtered and sent back into the aquarium. The assembly and installation of the Magnum 350 should take less than one hour, and no special tools are needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the flexible, aquarium-mounting bracket over the inlet and outlet tube bracket. Push the two protruding arms of the flexible mounting bracket under the upper lip of the interior of the aquarium in the desired position.

    • 2

Push the strainer onto the U-shaped intake tube until it is fully seated. Push an intake extension tube onto the intake tube to extend the length to reach your desired location of the strainer in the aquarium, if necessary.

    • 3

Push the rectangular diffuser over the outlet tube so that the lip on the tube is fully seated into the groove on the inside edge of the diffuser.

    • 4

Push the inlet and outlet tubes onto the fittings on the inlet and outlet tube bracket mounted on the edge of the aquarium until they are fully seated. Ensure the water level in the aquarium covers the elbow joint just behind the diffuser. Add water to the aquarium, if necessary, to bring the level up.

    • 5

Pull the stabilizer legs out on the bottom of the filter motor. Peel the backing from the rubber feet and press them into place on the depressions on the bottom of the motor and the stabilizer legs. Position the motor and canister assembly outside the aquarium in a place where the top of the canister is below the bottom of the aquarium such as the floor behind the aquarium.

    • 6

Cut the rubber hose provided in equal halves with scissors. Roll a circular retaining band onto the ends of each length of hose. Roll the bands back two inches from the ends of the hose lengths. Soak the hoses in hot water a few minutes to soften them, making installation easier.

    • 7

Push the ends of each hose onto the inlet and outlet fittings on top of the filter canister until they are fully seated. Roll the retaining bands toward the ends of the hoses to secure them in place.

    • 8

Measure the length of hose needed to reach the inlet and outlet tubes installed on the aquarium earlier with a measuring tape. Add six inches to this measurement. Cut off the ends of the hoses with scissors to match this measurement. Push the ends of the hoses onto the fittings on the inlet and outlet tubes on the aquarium. Roll the retaining bands toward the ends of each hose to secure them in place.
