Seashells don't need much in the way of cleaning, if you plan to use them for crafts or jewelry. A gentle scrub with an old toothbrush and some dishwashing liquid to remove salt and sand is all that's required. However, if you want to use those shells in an aquarium, reptile terrarium or for hermit crabs, they need disinfecting. The shells may harbor a range of microorganisms that could make your pets ill. Of course, you also want to avoid using cleaning chemicals hazardous to your pets. The safest way to disinfect the shells is also the simplest.
