How to Keep My Background Pressed Against My Fish Tank

An appealing background is critical for creating a beautiful fish tank. An aquarium without any backing will reveal unsightly wires and pumps, instead of making the tank stand out as an isolated ecosystem within your home. Unfortunately, colorful or scenic backgrounds on fish tanks can easily become lopsided, puckered or loosely attached. Keep the background pressed against your tank to maximize its aesthetic appeal.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the background against the outside back of the aquarium to fit it to your tank. Alter its position as needed until it is completely even on each side.

    • 2

Apply the tape carefully to a straightened edge of the background, so that half of the tape grips the tank while the other half adheres to the background itself. Taking care to keep the background flush with the edge of the tank, apply the tape so that it covers the entire corner edge. One or two pieces of tape will not suffice; the entire side of the background should be securely attached to the tank.

    • 3

Pull the background to the other side of the aquarium, holding it taut to prevent any bumps, folds, creases or raised areas. Smooth the background against the back of the aquarium and hold it securely in place.

    • 4

Tape the other side of the tank, taking care to ensure evenness and tautness. You may need to hold one corner while you apply the tape with the other. The tape should evenly straddle the aquarium glass and the background. Apply it so that the entire edge is covered and secured against the glass.

Stand in front of the aquarium. Check for any areas that look slack or puckered. If you can see these, you will need to redo the background application to eliminate these areas.
