The Best Fish Aquariums for Kids

Kids love pets, especially fish. Many kids will remember a pet fish they had and the aquarium in which they used to watch their little buddy or buddies swim around. The type of aquarium you select for your child will depend on the type of fish they get. Ideally for a child, the smaller the tank the better.
  1. Fish Bowl

    • A fish bowl is the simplest aquarium you can purchase for a kid. The plus side is that your child can pick out his favorite castle, rocks or other decorations for the inside of the bowl to create a new home for his fish. Fish bowls are ideal for gold fish and beta fish and allow for easy feeding.

    Small Fish Tank

    • If you decide to purchase some tropical fish for your child, then you will want to invest in a fish tank. Maintaining a fish tank can require a bit of work, so for a kid the smaller the tank the better. A 2-gallon fish tank would be the easiest for a child and can hold several tropical fish.

    Small Portable Tank

    • You can get a small, portable fish tank that your child can enjoy. This type of tank is excellent for holding small fish such as tadpoles and even small crabs. The benefit of a small portable tank is that you can take it to the tide pools and your child can attempt to collect her own little fish from the tide pools.

    Five Gallon Aquarium

    • A 5-gallon aquarium is good for a kid, but parental supervision is suggested. A large aquarium, such as 5 gallons or more, is capable for holding several tropical fish. This will be great for a child to look at for hours as he or she watches several tropical fish swim about and mingle. Cleaning and feeding with a tank like this must be done adhering to specific directions.
