How to Troubleshoot Biocube Aquarium Lighting

The Biocube aquarium is an all-inclusive aquatic system that includes aquarium, pump, filter and light. The Biocube, which is manufactured by Oceanic Systems, is a fairly trouble-free aquarium system. However, it does require maintenance from time to time. One part of the aquarium that may need attention is the aquarium light. The Biocube uses a 150-watt, double-ended metal halide bulb. Troubleshoot the bulb first if the light stops working before replacing the bulb.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the power plug in the back of the aquarium to make sure it has not been knocked loose.

    • 2

Remove the light fixture from the aquarium and place it on a non-abrasive flat surface with the bottom facing up.

    • 3

Remove the side panel by slipping it off with your fingers, then slide the ventilation grill off the fixture.

    • 4

Remove the glass lens cover from the lamp holder by pushing the cover in to free one side from the cover clamps. Slide the other end out by hand once it is free.

    • 5

Grab the bulb with a soft cloth to avoid getting oil from your fingers on it, and make sure the bulb is secure in its socket. If the light does not come on at this point, unplug the light fixture.

    • 6

Use the soft cloth to grab one end of the bulb. Push the bulb into the opposite end to free one side from the bulb socket. Raise the bulb up at an angle and remove it. Keep the cloth in your hand to put in the replacement HQI metal halide bulb.

Replace glass lens cover, ventilation grill and side panel. Set the light fixture back in place. Plug it back in.
