Principle of a PAR Meter

There are two types of meters known as PAR meters. Whether dealing with an aquarium or telephone channels, PAR meters take measurements that may aid in the planning of future improvements.
  1. Aquarium

    • Photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) meters are used by those maintaining an aquarium to measure the photons in the usable spectrum for photosynthesis. The measurements are used to create the ideal conditions for coral and other plant life.

    Benefits

    • For aquariums, PAR is a classification of light known as micro Einsteins or micro moles. With the data collected from a PAR meter, you may determine the ideal distance for coral placement, as well as the need to replace light bulbs or the lighting system altogether.

    Peak-to-Average

    • A peak-to-average ratio (PAR) meter is used to measure the peak power level and average power level of a circuit. Often used to determine the existence of degraded telephone channels, PAR meters can determine the peak-to-average ratio for voltage, frequency, power, current and phase.
