How to Test the pH in Marine Aquariums

Testing the water in an aquarium is a necessary step to keeping the fish within healthy and happy. The pH refers to the acidity level of the water. If this level is too high, you are putting your fish at risk of death. With a basic water kit, however, you can easily test the water pH levels and adjust the environment for your fish as necessary.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a pH testing water kit. These are widely available at pet stores and usually cost no more than $15 USD.

    • 2

Insert the test strip into the aquarium and hold it for 15 to 20 seconds.

    • 3

Remove the strip from the water and use the accompanying color guide to match the color of the strip to the color chart.
