How to Set Up an Air Regulating Valve in an Aquarium

Setting up an air regulating valve in your aquarium allows you to run several different items off of the same air pump. For instance, once your air regulating valve is in place you can run a corner filter, air stone and aquarium decoration all off of one air pump, instead of using separate pumps for each item. You can also adjust the level of air to each appliance as needed, making it easier to maintain a healthy environment in your tank.

Instructions

Attach one end of the airline tubing to the input on the air pump. Attach the other end of the airline tubing to the input on the side of the air regulating valve.

    • 2

Run a piece of airline tubing from each input on the air regulating valve to the aquarium item you want to run. For instance, you would run a piece of airline tubing from one of the valves on the air regulating unit to your box filter, another to your air stone, and so on.

Plug your aquarium pump into an outlet. Turn the thumbscrews at the top of each valve on the air regulating unit. As you turn the thumbscrews you will release either more or less air to the attached item. Continue adjusting the thumbscrews until each item has the air it needs.

Slide the air regulating valve down so that it fits over the frame of the aquarium. Keeping the valve on the back frame of the aquarium allows it to be out of sight, yet easily accessible if you need to make a last minute adjustment after it is in place.
