Fluval 404 Specs

The Fluval 404 is a canister filtration system for aquariums. Unlike in-tank filters, canister filters remain outside of the tank and can be hidden on a shelf below or behind the tank. This leaves more space for your fish and makes the tank more attractive. The Fluval 404 filter is designed with numerous channels to increase the amount of time water spends in the filter, which results in cleaner water for your fish.
  1. Appearance

    • The Fluval 404 is a square canister, not round. This increases the surface area for the filtration media without taking up additional space. The filter housing is gray.

    The Motor

    • The Fluval 404 motor requires 25 watts of power to operate. The motor is sealed and doesn't need added coolant.

    Impeller and Impeller Shaft

    • The Fluval 404 canister has a removable ceramic impeller shaft. The impeller controls the backflow of silt between the tank and the filter, and it is designed to be self-cleaning. You can view the impeller through a clear window so you can check for debris.

    Filter Media

    • Mechanical filtration (filtration achieved by blocking the passage of material) is done by foam inserts. The foam removes large pieces of waste from the water and breaks up the remaining debris. Biological filtration (filtration achieved via bacteria and organic reactions) occurs along a series of stacked modules. You can choose the modules for biological filtration based on the type of tank you have.

    Flow Rate and Additional Features

    • Up to 1020 liters of water per hour flow through the Fluval 404, which is ideal for a 400-liter tank. The Fluval 404 has a self-priming feature to get water flowing as quickly as possible after you clean the filter. To stop the movement of water instantly, the Fluval 404 has the AquaStop feature. This reduces the time it takes to clean the filter.
