How to Assemble the Media Cartridge for a Magnum 350 Fish Filter

The Magnum 350 fish filter, from Marineland Aquarium Products, is a high performance filtration system for both freshwater and marine aquariums. There are actually two different filter components that you can use in a Magnum 350 filter. The first is the carbon/media container, which holds activated carbon to remove chemical contaminants such as ammonia and nitrates that build up over time in the aquarium. The other is the micron cartridge, which removes microscopic particulate matter from the water and is used only periodically to clarify the aquarium water. Both are simple to prepare and install.

Instructions

  1. Carbon/Media Container

    • 1

      Remove the carbon/media container cover.

    • 2

Fill the container completely with activated carbon. The Magnum 350 fish filter owner's manual recommends Black Diamond premium activated carbon.

    • 3

Replace the cover securely onto the carbon/media container. Check that the cover is properly sealed.

    • 4

Rinse the filter thoroughly under running, unchlorinated water until the water runs clear to remove any carbon dust from the container.

    • 5

Slide the right-size sleeve that came with your filter over the carbon/media container. Turn the filter motor off if it's running. Remove the filter canister cover and insert the carbon/media container and right-size sleeve into the filter canister onto the impeller housing assembly.

    • 6

Replace the canister cover and turn the filter motor on.

    Micron Cartridge

    • 7

Insert the rigid cartridge core that came with your filter into a clean micron cartridge. This supports the cartridge and prevents it from collapsing in the filter. Slide the right-size sleeve over the micron cartridge.

    • 8

Turn the filter motor off, if running. Remove the filter canister cover and insert the micron cartridge in the right-size sleeve into the canister. Position the cartridge on the impeller housing.

    • 9

Replace the canister cover and start the filter motor.
