Choices and Price
-
Using artificial coral in an aquarium allows you to select from a much wider array of options than you would have if you were using live coral. You can choose from hard or soft corals of various types, colors and sizes, as well as artificial starfish and other crustaceans to decorate the tank. Another advantage is price. These artificial items can be purchased for a much lower price than the real thing.
Quality
-
In the past, people might have objected to artificial coral and other artificial items because they were inferior in appearance. Over the years, manufacturers have started producing man-made corals that are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. In fact, visitors looking at your coral pieces will probably have no idea they are artificial.
Durability
-
Another reason for setting up an aquarium using artificial aquarium decorations is that they will be far more durable than natural ones would be. Natural coral will decay and fade over time, requiring frequent replacement. It is also much easier to clean artificial coral than natural materials.
Living Green
-
Users of artificial coral also have the satisfaction of knowing that they are in no way contributing to the reduction of natural coral or animals that live on and around them. Avoiding the use of living coral also reduces the complexities of operating a saltwater aquarium. The coral will be one less living thing you have to carefully transfer whenever you need to empty the tank for maintenance.
