DIY 3-D Rock Aquarium Background

Making a 3-D rock aquarium background is a work of art that, when done correctly, should last for years. For the most natural effect, choose rocks that would be similar to those that would be found in the natural habitat of your fish.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix the cement according to the manufacturer’s directions.

    • 2

Apply a thick layer of cement on one side of the plywood using the trowel. Make the layer just thick enough for the rocks to affix to it.

    • 3

Stick the rocks into the cement in an artistic, pleasing pattern close together. Allow to dry overnight.

    • 4

Paint epoxy resin over all the rocks and cement. The epoxy creates a barrier between the cement and the water. Allow to dry for a few days.

    • 5

Add some silicone glue to the back wall of the tank.

    • 6

Insert rock-and-cement-covered plywood immediately into the tank and press against the back wall. Refill the tank with water.
