How to Use Silicone to Glue Aquarium Rocks

Aquariums can provide beautiful and functional habitats for pet fish. One of the most important parts of aquarium decoration involves creating a realistic-looking habitat. For most aquariums, this includes placing rocks onto the aquarium's floor to give fish a place to hide and breed. If you want to stack the rocks in formation, possibly to create a cave, you must glue them together to make the structure stable.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread a layer of newspaper onto a table and put on rubber gloves. Place the aquarium rocks on top of the newspaper. Decide on the basic arrangement of the rocks, such as whether they will form a cave, a wall or will be stacked randomly.

    • 2

Open a bottle of aquarium safe silicone glue and apply 1/8 tsp. to the top and side of one of the rocks.

    • 3

Push the rock against another rock along the side containing the silicone glue. Place another rock on top of the first rock, making contact with the glue on top. Hold the rocks in place for approximately 60 seconds until they are secure.

    • 4

Continue applying glue to the rocks and pressing them together until you have created the desired rock formation.

    • 5

Allow the silicone glue to dry and cure overnight before placing the rock formation into the aquarium.
