How to Heat a 75 Gallon Aquarium

Setting up your own aquarium requires time, money and general knowledge on how aquariums run. For a larger aquarium of 75 gallons or more, you need special equipment such as under-gravel filtration and heaters. Heating elements are necessary in large aquariums, as many fish require water temperatures of at least 68-degrees Fahrenheit. Some aquatic animals require even warmer habitats.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your aquarium and fill with gravel, decor and water. Make sure your 75-gallon aquarium is almost completely full, leaving the water level about an inch below the rim.

    • 2

Treat the aquarium with a suitable water conditioner for tap water. Aqua-safe is a good product to use for this.

    • 3

Affix the 250-watt submersible aquarium heater on one side of the aquarium, making sure to place it in a rear corner of the side you choose.

    • 4

Attach the 50-watt submersible aquarium heater on the opposite side of the tank of the 250-watt heater. Place it firmly with a suction cup to the far back corner of the side you place it on.

    • 5

Install each 50-gallon water filter on each side of the tank, next to the heaters. Make sure each filter system is sucking water through the bottom and spitting it through the top back into the aquarium.
