How to Install Fish Tank Cover Clips

Fish tanks hold a wide variety of animals, and some of them, like lizards and snakes, can push up the lid of the tank and escape. Using fish tank cover clips will allow you to secure the screen lid so that your animals cannot escape and they are an extremely inexpensive and effective way to give your tank a little more security.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the size of cover clips you need. Most of the standard clips on the market will secure a 50-gallon tank. If you have a larger tank, you may wish to look for specialty cover clips.

    • 2

Decide how many clips you need. For a 20-gallon tank and a relatively small animal, two clips on the two short sides might be all you need. For a longer tank or a particularly strong, active animal, at least one clip on each side of the tank might be necessary.

    • 3

Hook the short end of the cover clip underneath the black edge lid, along the top.

    • 4

Push down on the clip until the hook on the longer end catches on the edge of the tank. Newer clips will be very stiff and will require some pushing. You will hear a snap when the clip latches fully.

    • 5

Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have the cover clips arranged around the edge of the tank.
