How to Attach Fish Air Pumps

Air pumps in fish tanks are quite common, as they supply added oxygen to the aquarium that standard filters can't. By pumping air into the water, it churns it, creating currents and supplying life-giving gases to your fish. They're also quite easy to attach and install with a little ingenuity.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Attaching the Pump to the Tank

    • 1

Dab the stem of the suction cup with glue.

    • 2

Press the stem onto the bottom of the air pump. Some pumps come with a niche, allowing you to attach suction cups without glue.

    • 3

      Let the glue dry.

    • 4

Attach the suction cup, with the pump attached, to the side of the tank in the desired location.

    Using the Air Pump

    • 5

Attach one end of the rubber hose to the output of the air pump. This is where air is expelled from the pump.

    • 6

Attach the other end of the hose to the air stone.

    • 7

Place the air stone in the tank and turn the air pump on. Bubbles should begin emanating from the air stone.
