How to Use an AquaClear

Hagen brand AquaClear power filters are a useful addition to any aquarium. Improving water circulation, filtration and cleanliness, the AquaClear filter will help improve the water quality in your aquarium and keep your fish healthy. They're simple to use, and generally need little maintenance.

Instructions

    • 1

Use an AquaClear filter that is appropriate for the size of your tank. You can buy filters for aquariums from 20 to 150 gallons.

    • 2

Remove the AquaClear filter from box. Remove any protective plastic and all packaging pieces.

    • 3

Insert a new filter cartridge into the chamber of the AquaClear filter.

    • 4

Place the AquaClear filter onto the back edge of the aquarium, submerging the intake tube into the aquarium water. The end of the tube should be under the water line. Keep the cord and plug dry, and hang the cord behind the aquarium.

    • 5

Plug the AquaClear filter into a nearby power outlet. Form a "drip loop" with the cord to make sure water cannot run directly from the filter to the outlet. Do this by looping the cord down below the outlet, then up to it (see Resources). Check that water is flowing through the filter and back into the aquarium. Occasionally, you will have to fill the chamber with water to help form a siphon when you first turn on your AquaClear.
