How to Grow Your Fish Tank With Platies or Guppies

Platies and guppies are both easy fish to care for. They both look similar and stay smaller than 3 inches in length, but guppies can be recognized by their large fanned out tails. Having a large amount of plants in the aquarium will help both species of fish, especially if you plan on breeding them.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your aquarium with plants. Guppies especially enjoy plants that float, finding them as useful hiding places like they would in the wild. If the fish are bred, the plants will also give the fry a chance to seek shelter so more of them will survive.

Set your aquarium's temperature between 72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the most comfortable living conditions for both of these breeds of fish.

Feed your fish daily. Although adult fish of both breeds can survive for up to two weeks without any food, they will be healthier if fed daily. However, don't overfeed the fish, especially the guppies. They will eat themselves into an early grave.
