Things You'll Need
- Spray bottle White vinegar Water Razor blade or aquarium scraper (from pet store) Sponge or rag Python Rydyt (optional)
Instructions
Remove fish from your aquarium. Put them in another aquarium or large container. Pour out all water from the aquarium. Remove any aquarium rocks as well.
Mix one part vinegar in the spray bottle with two parts water. One cup of vinegar and 2 cups of water should be sufficient. Spray all of the walls of the aquarium, focusing on the main calcium deposits. Allow the mixture to sit for 2 to 3 minutes. Use your sponge (or rag) to wipe down all surfaces in the aquarium.
Check to see if any calcium deposits remain. Some deposits will be harder to remove than others. If there are stubborn spots, try a higher concentration of vinegar on the spot. Allow this higher concentration to sit for 2 to 3 minutes, then wipe down.
Use the aquarium scraper or razor to get off any remaining deposits. Scrape carefully if using a razor, as you do not want to leave any cuts on the plastic surface.
Use a product like Python Rydyt if calcium deposits persist. This product has a non-toxic form of cleanser, which should be the one you use if necessary.
Wash all aquarium decorations (bridges, statues, fake plants) in a solution of vinegar and water. Thoroughly rinse decorations with water. Also, scrub out aquarium with water repeatedly. The safest method of ensuring the water is clean is by testing its pH level while you wash it. If you have nothing to test pH with, wash thoroughly and repeatedly.
