How to Build a Grounding Probe for Fish Tanks

Ground probes are employed in saltwater aquariums to help ground any stray voltage that might be in the tank. Stray voltage is thought to be one of the leading causes of lateral line and hole in the head disease in aquarium fish as well as being unfavorable to the health of corals.   • Replacement male plug end Titanium or stainless steel wire Electrical tape Screwdriver

Instructions

      Disassemble the plug with a screwdriver.

      Connect the titanium wire to the bottom pole inside of the plug. This is the ground pole (the round one on the bottom). This is the only connection to be made inside the plug

      Reassemble the plug and wrap all of the wire except for the last 4 inches with electrical tape.

      Insert the unwrapped end of the wire into the aquarium or sump and plug in wall.
