How to Make Aquarium Decorations

Buying decorations for quariums can be very costly. You can save lots of money at the pet store by creating your own decorations using a few simple, inexpensive materials that you probably already have. One of the quickest and easiest decorative items that you can make is an air curtain, which creates a bubble show that is pleasing to the eye and also hides any equipment behind the aquarium. Your fish will love playing in the bubbles, which provide the added benefit of contributing aeration to the water.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of silicone tubing long enough to run from the air pump to where you want it to be positioned on the bottom of your aquarium.

    • 2

Stick a small air stone in the end of the tubing. This will help to anchor your bubble curtain to the aquarium floor, as well as provide even more aeration. Alternately, use aquarium sealant to close the end of the tube, and allow it to dry overnight.

    • 3

Measure how much of the end of the tubing will be resting on the floor of the tank. Use a straight pin to poke lots of holes in this section of the tubing; the more the better.

Submerge the bubble curtain in the aquarium and use some small flat stones to secure it into place on the floor. Attach the other end of the tubing to your air pump.
