How many penguines are there in the world?

Penguins are flightless birds found in the Southern Hemisphere. There are 18 different species of penguins, ranging in size from the little blue penguin, which stands at just 33 cm (13 in) tall and weighs 1 kg (2.2 lbs), to the emperor penguin, which can reach a height of 122 cm (48 in) and weigh up to 40 kg (88 lbs). Penguins are found on the coasts of Antarctica, South Africa, South America, and Australia, as well as on various subantarctic islands. The total population of penguins in the world is estimated to be around 20 million breeding pairs.
