How do I Treat Betta With Fungus?

Betta fish can be vulnerable to several maladies, including fungal infections. These infections will present as white, cotton-like patches on the fish's head and body. While suffering from a fungal infection, the betta may appear lethargic and may stop eating. Generally fungal infections in betta fish are caused by injury to the fish and poor water quality. Treating a betta's fungal infection is crucial to ensure the betta lives a healthy life.

  • Small fish bowl
  • Fish fungus eliminator
  • Aquarium salt

      Remove the sick betta from the aquarium and place it in a small fish bowl filled with fresh water. Remove any other fish from the tank and place separately.

      Remove the existing water, rocks and any decorative articles from the tank. Replace this water with fresh water. Betta fish will thrive in water that is between 72-72 degrees F.

      Pour 1/4 tbsp. of fish fungus eliminatior, per gallon, into the fish tank. This fungus eliminator can be purchased at your local pet store.

      Pour 1 tsp. per gallon of aquarium salt into the aquarium.

      Place the betta, new rocks or aquarium gravel and the decorative pieces back into the tank. Place any other fish back into this treated tank. This will ensure that any other fish that may have been exposed to the fungus can be treated as well.

      Repeat this process every three days until the fungal infection has ended.
