How to Move My Betta From a Bowl to a Tank

The betta, which is also known as the Siamese fighting fish, is a common fish species to keep at home. Bettas derive their reputation as fighting fish from the fact that the males are extremely territorial, and two male bettas in the same tank are likely to attack each other after a territorial display of their brightly colored fins. However, those colorful fins are the reason why male bettas are a favorite among casual fish owners.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that your fish tank and accessories are clean. Fill the tank with water, making sure that the temperature is somewhere between 75 and 85 degrees. Do not keep more than one male betta in the same aquarium.

    • 2

Pour some of the water from the betta's bowl into your plastic bag once the tank has been prepared. Scoop the betta out of the bowl and place it into the bag after it is full.

    • 3

Seal the bag and slowly dip the bottom into the fish tank, making sure not to let any of the tank water seep into the bag. This is to create a gradual shift between the temperature of the bowl and that of the tank, as sudden shifts in temperature can be dangerous for the betta.

Open the bag after it has soaked in the tank water for 10 minutes and let the betta swim freely. If you have plants or other accessories, make sure to space them out evenly so that the betta has ample free space to swim around.
