What does a knysna loerie eat?

The Knysna Loerie (Tauraco corythaix) is omnivorous, and the composition of its diet varies seasonally and regionally. Fruit comprises most of its diet, but it also consumes insects, nectar, pollen, and occasionally small vertebrates such as lizards and invertebrates. Fruit eaten includes wild and cultivated figs, mistletoe, and other berries, as well as various fruits, such as bananas and apples. When available, it also consumes the fruit of the invasive alien plant, the Port Jackson fig (Ficus rubiginosa). Insects consumed include beetles, termites, ants, grasshoppers, and caterpillars. During the breeding season, the Knysna Loerie has been observed consuming snails, suggesting a source of calcium for eggshell production.
