What does the chukar eat?
Chukars are ground-feeding birds. Their diet includes grain, leaves, stems, flowers, berries, shoots, seeds, fruit, small insects, beetles, larvae, and grasshoppers. Chukars prefer green leafy herbs in warmer months and berries of various shrubs such as wild rose, wild grape, poison oak, manzanita, juniper, snowberry, sumac, serviceberry, buckthorn, chokecherry, hackberry, buffaloberry, elderberry, hawthorn and many others in the cooler periods.
