* Gill rakers are comb-like structures located on the inside of the gill arches.
* As water flows through the gills, the gill rakers act like a sieve, trapping small organisms like plankton, krill, and small fish.
* The larger food particles are then swallowed, while the water is expelled through the gills.
This filtering system is extremely efficient, allowing whale sharks to consume vast quantities of food.
