Here's what people might have taken from whales in the past, before conservation efforts:
* Whalebone: This was a material used to make corsets, umbrella frames, and other items. It came from the baleen plates inside the mouths of baleen whales.
* Whale oil: Used for lighting, lubrication, and even cosmetics.
* Whale meat: Some cultures have traditionally hunted whales for food, but this is now heavily regulated in most places.
Today, it's illegal to hunt most whale species for anything other than traditional subsistence whaling in a few locations.
Instead of taking things from whales, we should focus on protecting them and their habitats.
