Buy good quality minnows - it won't matter what you feed your bait if they are unhealthy to begin with. Minnows that group tightly together in the tank tend to be healthier than the ones that are disoriented from the group. Don't be afraid to shop around and ask store owners how fresh the minnows are.
Purchase some generic flaked fish food from the fish store. Minnows do not require any special food, but make sure the food you buy is for freshwater fish.
Crush up the flakes with your fingers and sprinkle them on the surface of the water. Like ordinary pet fish, you should only give them an amount of food they can eat within the span of a few minutes.
Scoop any additional food from the top of the tank using a net to stop it from settling unnecessarily on the bottom of the tank. You know you have fed your fish too much if they have finished eating and there is still food left on the surface. After a bit of trial and error you will know the right amount of food to feed your fish.
Feed your minnows every couple days. Minnows do not require a lot of food and are content to be fed every couple days.
How to Feed Freshwater Baitfish Minnows
Feeding your freshwater bait minnows is relatively easy if you have any experience caring for fish. All you need is a generic brand of freshwater fish food to keep your minnows happy and healthy. Like most pet fish, they do not require daily feeding and should only be given enough food to last them for a few minutes of munching.
