Things You'll Need
- Brine shrimp
- Aquarium
- Protein-rich food
- 60-watt light bulb
Instructions
Check the temperature on the aquarium you have chosen to raise your shrimp in. This should never drop below 77 degrees Fahrenheit. This can be kept at 77 degrees or above by keeping a 60-watt light bulb above the water. The water should be warmed before putting the brine shrimp cysts into the water. This will ensure that they will hatch properly.
Change the wattage of the light bulb if it is not keeping at 77 degree Fahrenheit̵2;the lowest recommended temperature to ensure the brine will hatch. If you need, you may move up the wattage to keep it as warm as needed, but do not go over 100 watts with the light bulb you choose. Move up gradually to make sure the water will not get too hot.
Watch the cysts, which will be floating at the top of the tank. After being in the correct temperature water for 15 to 20 hours, the cysts should hatch. If they have not began to hatch, they are not at the proper temperature. The count will start over once you've changed the temperature.
