How to Feed Brine Shrimp to Betta

The betta, also known as the Siamese fighting fish, is a popular, vibrant-colored aquarium fish with flowing fins. Bettas are carnivores and thrive on meat-based food such as mosquito larva, worms and brine shrimp. Brine shrimp carapace provides roughage and makes an exceptionally nutritious meal for bettas. Additionally, brine shrimp are reared in brine and will not infect freshwater betta with diseases. Ensure the well-being of your bettas by feeding them a sufficient quantity of brine shrimp and maintaining a healthy feeding environment.

Instructions

    • 1

Thaw four frozen brine shrimp before feeding them to your betta. Bettas can more easily digest thawed brine shrimp than frozen shrimp.

    • 2

Tap gently on the aquarium glass wall to get your betta's attention before feeding. Bettas prefer to eat from the surface of the water rather than from the base, and must view the food you offer them. Place the thawed brine shrimp in an aquarium net and gently lower the brine shrimp into the water, in front of the betta.

    • 3

Observe your betta's belly once it consumes the brine shrimp, to avoid overfeeding. If its belly takes on a soft, rounded shape, it has had a sufficient amount to eat. The betta's belly should not become so large such that it looks pregnant, as this is a sign that it has overeaten. Offer it a smaller, second portion if its belly hasn't rounded at all.

Remove any uneaten food from the tank with an aquarium net immediately. Leaving leftover food will pollute the water and be detrimental to the health of your betta.
