How to Feed a Lobster

Several clawed bottom-dwelling arthropods, from freshwater crayfish to the American lobster (Homarus americanus), are referred to by the common term "lobster." However, no matter the species you have living in your tank, the feeding will be much the same. These arthropods scavenge for food on the bottom of the ocean floor or river and lake beds, eating dead animals, plants and algae.

Instructions

    • 1

Feed your lobster as much food as he will eat in one feeding, which should take less than five minutes, twice a day. This will prevent over-feeding your lobster and keep the water in the tank cleaner.

    • 2

Feed your lobster a diet that consists of both meat-based protein and plant matter. No exact percentage needs to be meat or plant matter as these animals naturally eat whatever they find in the wild.

    • 3

Feed fish flakes, brine, bloodworms, killed goldfish, snails and shrimp pellets as protein sources.

    • 4

Feed a variety of plant matter such as aquatic plants, lettuce, carrots, peas, green beans and algae wafers for the plant portion of your lobster's diet.
