How to Feed a Clownfish

Featured in the popular animated movie Finding Nemo, clownfish are native to warm waters in the Red Sea, Indian and Pacific oceans. These colorful fish were the first to be successfully bred in captivity and the first saltwater fish to be raised successfully in a tank. When it comes to dietary needs, the clownfish is omnivorous, which means it eats both plants and animals.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare a mixture of frozen or live food by cutting it into tiny pieces. Shrimp, krill, spirulina flakes and bloodworms are just some of the live food a clownfish will eat.

    • 2

Sprinkle a high-quality marine flake food into your fish tank along with a mixture of live, or frozen food two to three times each day. Only sprinkle what your clown fish will consume within three minutes, otherwise it may over eat.

    • 3

Place algae in your fish tank. Between meals you clownfish will graze on the algae when it is hungry.
