How Do I Presoak Krill?

Freeze-dried krill, which is a small saltwater crusacean, is a common food for large fish species such as Oscars. The process of freeze drying helps preserve the nutrients in the krill, so your fish get the most benefit from the food. Feeding fish krill can also help them maintain a pink or orange color. Presoaking the freeze-dried krill prevents it from floating on the top of the aquarium water and makes it easier to consume.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a small bowl with clean, lukewarm water. Measure out the amount of freeze-dried krill you want to feed to your fish. The exact amount will depend on the size and species of your fish.

    • 2

Pour the measured amount of freeze dried krill into the water in the bowl. Use a spoon to push the krill down into the water so all the krill become wet. Leave the krill to soak for 2 to 3 minutes.

    • 3

Pour off the extra water in the bowl. Spoon the rehydrated krill into your aquarium.
