Can an alligator eat a shark?

Although an alligator is capable of taking a shark in some circumstances, the opposite is more common. Sharks live primarily in oceans, while alligators are found in freshwater environments. Although it's possible for a shark to enter a freshwater estuary, it's less likely for an alligator to be in waters where a shark might be. As a result, encounters between the two species are rare.
