What does a sand eel eat?

Sand eels primarily feed on small crustaceans and other zooplankton found in the water column. Their diet mostly consists of copepods, amphipods, and other planktonic organisms, such as larval fish, fish eggs, mollusks, and sometimes small worms. Sand eels are opportunistic feeders, meaning they will eat whatever is readily available in their environment. Depending on the species and location, they may also feed on small fish, squid, and other larger zooplankton.
