What mammals are amphibious pond dwellers?

There aren't truly amphibious mammals that live exclusively in ponds. Amphibious animals typically have a life stage that takes place in water and another on land. While some mammals are semi-aquatic, they don't undergo a complete metamorphosis like amphibians.

Here are some mammals that are semi-aquatic and live near ponds:

* Beavers: These rodents are known for their dams and lodges built on or near ponds and streams.

* Muskrats: These rodents are also excellent swimmers and often live in ponds, building lodges and burrows along the banks.

* Otters: Otters, both river otters and sea otters, are skilled swimmers and spend much of their time in and around water, including ponds.

* Water shrews: These small, insectivorous mammals are found near water and can even swim underwater.

* Water voles: These rodents are similar to muskrats and also build burrows and lodges near ponds.

Important Note: While these mammals spend a lot of time in or near ponds, they do not undergo a metamorphosis like amphibians and still require land for resting, breeding, and raising their young.
