What is the oarfish prey?

Oarfish are planktivores, meaning they primarily feed on plankton. These include:

* Zooplankton: Small crustaceans like copepods, krill, and amphipods

* Phytoplankton: Microscopic algae

They also consume:

* Small fish: They might eat small, soft-bodied fish like lanternfish

* Squid and other invertebrates: These are likely consumed in smaller quantities.

Interestingly, oarfish don't actively hunt their prey. They are ambush predators, filtering vast amounts of water through their large mouths and gills to capture the tiny organisms they need to survive.
